Botulinum type A treatment for acute TGN neuralgia

Good Morning !

My wife (who is in her early '60s) is currently experiencing bouts of severe facial pain caused by some malfunction of the tri-geminal nerve system.
Her suffering is appalling and completely debilitating.
Would you recommend a carefully targeted 'botox' injection in order to lessen the effects, please ?
Many thanks indeed.
Kind regards,
Michael Carter

Answer: Hi Michael,

Thank you so much for your question. I’m really sorry to hear that your wife is experiencing such severe pain.

Unfortunately, Laurie doesn’t offer Botox for acute TGN neuralgia, Laurie advises to see a specialist who treats neurological pain with Botox or pain specialist for the appropriate treatment.

I’m so sorry we couldn’t be of more help, but I truly hope she finds relief soon.

Answer: Hello Michael,

Thank you for your question. There maybe scope for using Botulinum Toxin in this way.

However my advice would be to see a Neurologist for this and especially if having treatment with Botulinum toxin. Alternatively a specialist GP or specialist Nurse who has extensive experience of doing this treatment.

I do not offer this treatment.

Answer: Bless you Michael, and your wife. Yes Trigeminal neuralgia is very painful.

My thoughts:
1. Has she seen Dr Chad Taylor at the pain clinic or privately?
2. Has she had a MRI head to exclude any sinister or treatable pathology?
3. Has a neurologist made this diagnosis or a Maxillofacial surgeon?
4. Has she trialed amitriptyline or carbamazepine? (Baclofen is not indicated and useless) A maxillofacial surgeon can also try a Trigeminal ganglion steroid&anaesthetic block too.
5. Botox is unlikely to benefit
6. I have, in another clinic treated Trigeminal Neuralgia very successfully with Medical Cannabis oil. It responds very well to the oil but it must be prescribed by a doctor. CBD oil is not the same and not worth it. If everything else has been trialed, go see Dr Kirstie Ross or Dr Vish Patel at Carpathia Cannabis Clinic and say I sent you.

I hope that helps.
Dr Rob Greig

Answer: Hi Michael - can your dentist help? Anyone who offers botox for TGN pain should have a dental background. To check for any underlying problems - I hope this helps. Sarah

Answer: Good Morning, Thank you for your enquiry.

As this is not a treatment we carry out, we are unable to advise, however we would recommend speaking with a Neurologist to get their opinion.

I hope you get the help you require.

Kind regards rtwskin
