Wrinkles are an inevitable part of ageing. We can embrace and celebrate them as a sign of a life well lived or, if we don’t like how they look, we can take action.
This can involve lifestyle changes to prevent them turning into deep wrinkles, and aesthetic procedures to reduce their appearance. Some of our favourite treatments are with thread lifts, Secret PRO, and Morpheus8 – impressive devices that we explain in more detail below!
At-home Methods
Apply sunscreen: UV rays from the sun damage elastin fibres in the skin which leads to the formation of wrinkles. By applying sunscreen daily, and topping up throughout the day if it’s sunny, you can help stop deep wrinkles from appearing.
Reduce alcohol intake: drinking alcohol can reduce the level of vitamins in skin, as well as sending your collagen production into decline. This means your skin will look drier, saggier and more wrinkled. Cutting back before you notice these changes can make a big difference to your long-term appearance.

Eat a balanced diet: it’s no secret that eating healthily has a significant impact on our appearance. In particular, excessive consumption of sugar causes a process called glycation, whereby important collagen and elastin proteins are damaged, leading to deep wrinkles and aged skin. Eat a nutrient-dense diet low in sugar to keep your skin looking good for longer.
Stop smoking: as one of the main contributors to aged skin, quitting smoking should be top of your list if you want to avoid deep wrinkles! The chemicals in tobacco increase something known as your matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which degrade collagen and elastin, leading to significant wrinkling. There’s plenty of resources online that can help you quit smoking, but don’t be afraid to reach out to your GP for support if you’re struggling.
Cleanse skin daily: pollution, sweat, make-up and general dirt aren’t great for your skin quality, so aim to wash away the grime morning and evening. At Pure Perfection Clinic, we love the ZO Skin Health range – get in touch and we’ll help you find the best cleanser for your skin type!
In-clinic Approaches
Making lifestyle changes is a great way to prevent deep wrinkles forming, but what do you do if you’ve already got them? Or you may wonder, are there clinical treatments that can go a few steps further? The answer is, quite simply, absolutely!
Anti-wrinkle injections: probably the most well-known way to reduce wrinkles, injection of a substance called botulinum toxin will temporarily freeze the muscles that contribute to wrinkle formation, leaving you with a smooth appearance for the next few months. As this a prescription-only treatment, a thorough consultation must take place before any procedure takes place.
Secret PRO: using CO2 laser for skin resurfacing, combined with radiofrequency micro-needling for deep skin remodelling, this impressive device is perfect for treating deep lines, wrinkles, scars, sun damage, stretch marks, poor skin tone and texture. With four signature treatment options, we can tailor the procedure to your exact needs. We’ll use topical anaesthetic to numb any discomfort and you can expect results to last 12 to 18 months.

Morpheus8: combining both radiofrequency technology and micro-needling to stimulate collagen production, the state-of-the-art Morpheus8 treatment is a real gamechanger for deep wrinkles. Not only will you see them reduce in appearance, but your surrounding skin will be firmer and tighter too. The procedure takes less than hour, is not too painful as we’ll use topical anaesthetic to numb the area treated, and results will continue to improve over time.
Thread lifts: as the name suggests, resorbable threads are inserted under your skin to lift sagging, unfold wrinkles and give you a more youthful appearance. We use Silhouette Soft Thread Lifts, which are clinically proven to provide long lasting results of up to two years. Results will be noticeable immediately, but you may experience some redness and swelling for up to a week.
