Not a review, but a question for the "appearance medicine" (huh?) doctor below. I''ve never had treatmet but couldn''t post a comment without rating it so I did so based on what I''ve read. Please ignore it. Anyway, you claim that the second adverse reaction you describe was caused by an infected injection - is it really fair therefore to blame Aquamid for this?

Aquamid is the biggest mistake I have ever made and I will regret the decision for life . For anyone contemplating the use of this material don`t . If any doctor suggests using the product, walk out of the surgery and don`t look back. He is not there for your welfare. Any substance that cannot be removed or dissolved should be banned. Surgery doesn`t count.

I had Aquamid injected into my top lip 5 years ago. Within 24 hours it flared up to the point where the skin was so stretched it began to tear and I was put on several medications, including antibiotics, to counteract it. For no apparent reason it flared up again 7 months later (only on one side of my lip - making me look hugely deformed) before seeping / squirting pus. It was the most revolting thing I have ever seen in my life!! I have had a hard round lump on the left side of my lip ever since. It`s unsightly and painful when knocked - I have to be careful how I use my utensils when eating. Cosmetic nurses/doctors refuse to treat any area on my lower face because of it and I have to have it removed surgically - finding a surgeon prepared / confident to go at it is difficult. I would never in a million years recommend this product. If it works, great, but if you do have a side effect (sooner or later) it tends to be massive - check out google images... My advice would be to stick with the `temporary` fillers, which I`ve never had a problem with :)

I first had this product 12 years ago. It is totally brilliant ! I am just having to have it ''topped up'' now. I would say it needs a very experienced practitioner.

Aquamid is a great product. I am very happy with the results. I had it done on my cheek bones and nose to mouth lines.I cannot feel it under the skin. I had it done 3 years ago I would say I still have 90% volume where I had the treatment.I have saved a fortune on follow up procedures too : )

I am an experienced appearance medicine doctor in New Zealand. Unfortunately I have had serious complications in two of my patients with this permanent dermal filler and would caution both doctors and patients about the use of permanent dermal fillers in general. Today I have sent a report to the New Zealand Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring (CARM) about a patient I injected with Aquamid back in 2002 who has had a granulomatous reaction to the filler leaving her with hard, inflammed lumps in the facial skin. Previously I have had a patient with awful scars to the vermillion borders of the lips following an infected aquamid injection that required plastic surgical correction. I no longer reccommend permanent fillers to my patients.

I first had Aquamid in 2014 and I'm completely happy with the results achieved.
With aging and the loss of volume in my face, I recently decided to have a little on my jawline to enhance the result.
My main advice would be to ensure that you're practitioner is trained in the use of the product as it is long-lasting and requires specific protocols to inject.

I've been having cometic injectables for about 15 years, and 6 years ago I had my jawline treated with Aquamid. I'm very happy with the result!

With aging I was starting to sag again around the jawline, I also recently had it topped up with a little more.

The result was exactly what I wanted and would recommend.

My main advice is to make sure your injecting doctor is trained in the use of Aquamid, the technique and sterile protocols seem to be different to other fillers I've had.

I have been injecting acquamid for well over 20 years. I have it in my face. My daughter has it in her lips. Unless this is injected by a well trained person with plenty of experience it is inadvisable to have it. There is a very definite selection criteria for people suitable. 1e. No diabetics. The person needs full information on the product. The risks and if any doubts about using a permanent product the client should not go ahead. The removal from the lips if an inflammatory response can be handled easily in most circumstances without surgical removal. I have read complaints from people having the product injected into the vermilion border of the lips it should never be placed in this area so it was injected by someone with insufficient knowledge of the product. I have had cl I entered return for more product with years in between. This is a much maligned product unfortunately as the excellent results far outweigh the problems.

Biggest mistake of my life!! I went to the plastic surgery for a mini face lift after losing a lot of weight. And they suggested I use fillers instead. This was over 20 years ago. The pushy sales woman/injecting nurse told me the product was safe and used in Europe. That was a lie. She recently admitted to me that it was a new product then. She had been using me as a Guinea pig so she could write a white paper on the product and give it favourable reviews. I have hard lumps in my face. Increasing in hardness. My smile is disfigured. They won’t remove the stuff. I have skin inflammation and what looks like nerve damage when I smile. She also pushed the needle right through my face when injecting near my lips. She didn’t get me to sign the paper work until after the procedure. I feel like I have been used as a Guinea pig for this woman’s ambition. Stay away from aquamid. If anyone wants to start a class action! Reach out to Shine Lawyers. We need to stop these monsters from disfiguring women! There have been successful class actions in Europe and they have banned the product there. Australians are being lied to. Let’s fight back!

The biggest mistake I've ever made was getting aquamid in my lips 17 years ago. I was told it will dissolve after 5-10 years...guess what? It's permanent. I was lied to so that the surgeon could make money. It cost me $4000 for 2 X 2ml.
I'm left with deformed lips with hundreds of nodules, it has migrated towards my nose and no one will remove it in surgery for me. Every surgeon won't touch it saying it's too complex to remove and I'll have to just deal with the decision I made at just 23 years of age when I was young and dumb to believe a cosmetic surgeon at the time.
The surgeon who did it is still operating with no ramifications and I'm left with permanent disfigured lips and face.
I'm now Also getting these weird looking deep creases around the filler migration site under my nose too.
Now I realise I was born with small lips but was perfect in every way until aquamid destroyed that.

I had Aquamid injected under a skin cancer scar to restore the volume and reduce the appearance and it has worked beautifully. Since then, I''''ve had the same treatment in my upper lip. No side effects, however, I chose a doctor who has experience in the procedure and uses a sterile technique, and a good track-record with this treatment. So I''''ve had Aquamid in my skin since 2001 with a great result and without any problems at all. In my opinion if you choose a reputable and experienced practitioner and follw their advice, it''''s a great choice for people who want a long-term result.
