The call for tighter regulation in the aesthetics industry is growing louder, with increasing concerns about patient safety and the prevalence of unregulated practitioners.

This week, Dr Roisin Convery of Ever Clinic in Glasgow has publicly backed the Chartered Trading Standards Institute’s (CTSI) urgent plea for stricter controls and a national licensing scheme to govern aesthetic procedures. Drawing from first-hand clinical experience, Dr Convery highlights the alarming rise in unsafe treatments being performed in inappropriate, unhygienic settings by unqualified individuals. Her support adds to the mounting pressure on authorities to prioritise regulation and protect the public from the serious risks posed by unscrupulous operators.

“As a medical professional working in aesthetic medicine, I fully support the Chartered Trading Standards Institute’s urgent call for tighter regulation and a national licensing scheme to govern aesthetic procedures. At Ever Clinic, we have been calling for regulation in this sector for years. The continued lack of oversight is not just a regulatory failure – it is a growing public health concern.

“The CTSI’s findings reflect what we in clinical practice have seen far too often: unsafe treatments being carried out in completely inappropriate and unhygienic environments by individuals with no qualifications, insurance, or accountability. At Ever Clinic, we now dissolve more fillers than we inject, simply because so many patients come to us suffering the consequences of botched or unsafe procedures carried out elsewhere.

“Tighter regulation of the aesthetics industry can only be a good thing. In the meantime, my advice to the public is to be vigilant. Do not allow anyone to administer treatment in settings like toilets, hotel rooms, or your own home. The people operating like this are likely to be unscrupulous and may pose serious risks to your health.”
