Hot on the heels of two recent blogs by us looking at a mother in Texas who injects her 11 year old daughter with botulintum toxins bought online and our most recent blog looking at whether beauty therapists should be allowed to inject dermal fillers and botulinum toxins comes a story from The Sun newspaper of a mother, herself claiming to be a ‘trained beauty therapist’ who is injecting her 8 year old daughter with, again, toxins bought online in an attempt to stop her ageing.
Kerry Campbell, a 34 year old Beauty Therapist, originally from Birmingham but now living in San Francisco, USA, injects her eight year old daughter Britney once every three months with botulinum toxin and dermal fillers in her forehead, around her eyes and in her lips. Described as a ‘beauty pageant obsessed single mum’ by The Sun, Kerry buys the products online and claims that she is doing this so her daughter can become a famous star (model, actress or singer) as a teenager.
Shocking it most certainly is. Yet Kerry seems oblivious to the harm that she could be inflicting on her daughter by giving her unknown, unproved substances at such a young age.
“I'm sure people reading this will think I am being irresponsible, but I ensure that I test the Botox and fillers I buy online on myself first. More mothers should do it for their daughters" ; comments Kerry to the paper.
It certainly begger’s belief that such practice cannot be reported to the authorities as those most outspoken commentators have vehemently opposed what this woman is doing to her own child and even called it child abuse.
Apparently, and more troubling though is that The Sun notes that this behaviour is becoming a trend in the competitive world of American child beauty pageants. Here’s hoping it gets nipped in the bud by the organisers and authorities before it gets out of hand.
