Introduction

This year marks 20 years since the Consulting Room was first founded. In this issue, we celebrate all that’s happened in those two decades and look back at how we have grown and evolved with the industry. Check out our tribute on pages 14-15. One of the biggest changes the industry has seen in recent years is a shift away from the term “anti-ageing” and towards things like wellbeing and health. No bigger topic encompasses this than “skin health”, and that’s the focus of this month’s issue. More and more patients want to look and feel their best, and it all starts with good skin. Skin health is the foundation for all other treatments by creating a canvas that not only looks well but functions well. One of the key factors to skin health is taking an inside-out approach that nods toward things like gut health, hormones, mental health and nutrition, as well as the treatments that stimulate skin rejuvenation. In this issue, we have got it all covered. On pages 36-38, Dr Tina Meder explores the topic of microbiome. Tania Malan delves into hormones and testing on pages 50-56, while, in our CPD article for this month, Tracey Dennison looks at the role of the parasympathetic nervous system and the mind, body, and spirit connection (p44-47). When it comes to skin health, menopause can also be a huge disruptor, and we are delighted to share the results of an insightful survey carried out by Dr Yusra Al-Mukhtar on menopausal skin – Glowing the Distance. See pages 40-42. We also went along to the inaugural Menopause in Aesthetics (MiA) conference and have a round-up of what went on (p18-19), and a summary of the trends report released at the event’s press conference (p6-7). In addition to our clinical content, this month’s issue contains business insights from experts in the field. It’s fitting that in our 20th-anniversary issue, our founders Martyn Roe and Ron Myers, have both contributed articles. Turn to pages 62-63 and 66- 68 respectively, to read what they have to say on the topics of sustainability and how to introduce skin health treatments into your practice.
