What's the difference between a traditional Rhinoplasty and a non-surgical Nose Job?

A Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) is a permanent plastic surgery procedure using general anaesthesia, postoperative pain, and downtime away from work and social activities.

A non-surgical Nose Job, or 'liquid Nose Job', alters the shape of your nose temporarily (usually 6-12 months) with the use of Dermal Fillers. There is significantly less downtime with a non-surgical nose reduction than with the surgical procedure and it does not require anaesthesia. If you are looking for nose reshaping without surgery in Sale, or an instant nose lift then this could be the right treatment for you.

Read our FAQ more information on nose reshaping with Dermal Fillers.

What is the difference between a Rhinoplasty and a Nose Job?

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure which alters the size or shape of your nose.

A Rhinoplasty and a Nose Job are the same procedure, with Rhinoplasty often being referred to as a Nose Job in everyday common use.

How much does a Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) cost in Sale?

Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) prices in Sale vary from clinic to clinic, typically costing upwards of £3000. Many Sale clinics offer finance which will need to be discussed at your Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) consultation.

All of our clinics are accredited providers who belong to their relevant member bodies, this means that they do not offer cut-price 'cheap nose jobs'.

Other surgeries such as Nose Tip Surgery or Rhinoplasty Revision costs will need to be discussed with your surgeon.

Am I suitable for Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?

If you are prone to keloid (red, angry, raised) scars, or have a history of problems with wound healing your surgeon may advise against a Rhinoplasty. Generally,  there are few reasons why you shouldn’t undergo this procedure as long as you are in good health and have a realistic expectation of your results.

If you are seeking treatment via the NHS, you will require an assessment by a psychiatrist, or psychologist first.

What happens during my Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?

When you are looking for your Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) surgeon in Sale, you should clearly explain your expectations of the surgery and how you would like to look afterwards.

Obtain as much information as you can to enable you to make a fully informed decision about whether to go ahead with the surgery. It is common to be asked to take a photograph for a “before and after” comparison.

The operation can be performed under a local anaesthetic however, some patients will require a general anaesthetic or IV sedation. No anaesthetic should be given to you without your surgeon discussing it with you first.

The operation can take between 1 - 2 hours, but depending on the extent of the Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) surgery, it can take longer.

Will I be able to see a change in my nose immediately?

Many people in Sale have queried if an instant nose lift would occur. However, you will be only able to see changes once your nose splint is removed (usually after a week to 10 days). However, as your nose, eyes and face may be subject to swelling and bruising, it can take a few weeks or longer to settle down into its new shape.

How long will it take to recover from the Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?

Downtime will vary from person to person and depending on the surgery, however, most people will return to work one to two weeks afterwards. If your nasal bone is broken, a splint is put on which is removed in seven to ten days to allow the bone to reset in a new position. It may take a few more weeks longer until you are confident to return to social activities and the swelling has subsided fully.

What are the side effects of Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) surgery?

Bleeding and swelling of the nose, eyes and face are common after a procedure and may last for several weeks. If the nasal bone was broken this will result in bruising around the eyes and potentially you may experience headaches during your recovery.

As with any cosmetic surgery, there is the possibility of risks including infection, irregularities such as a 'lopsided' nose or a reaction to the anaesthetic whilst healing of bone and cartilage can also cause irregularities.

For more associated risks please read our Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) FAQ.

Is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job) available on the NHS?

Whilst there are special cases allowed by certain regions of the UK, it is unlikely that cosmetic nose surgery would be available free of charge by the NHS.

NHS guidelines state: "To qualify for surgery on the NHS you must meet specific criteria as set out by your local health authority. The NHS will not pay for surgery for cosmetic reasons alone. Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery to correct, or improve, congenital abnormalities and injuries will usually be carried out free of charge."

Please seek advice and guidance from your GP who may also be able to refer you to a Sale surgeon who will carry out cosmetic surgery through the NHS, and who also belongs to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
