Miss Balaratnam graduated from the University of Leicester Medical School in 1998. Her ensuing surgical career encompassed a broad range of specialties including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Accident & Emergency and Cardiothoracic Surgery to name a few. During this time she completed examinations to become a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2003. Her passion in plastic surgery has lead to over 4 years of practice in the field covering areas including breast surgery, burns reconstruction, skin oncology and aesthetics, the latter two being her specialist interest.
Currently working in a busy plastic surgery unit within the National Health Service as well as in the private aesthetics sector, Miss Balaratnam believes in the importance of maintaining a high standard as well as safe delivery of care to her patients. Miss Balaratnam keeps up to date with the rapidly changing face of aesthetic medicine by regularly attending international meetings and conferences in order to continue her professional development and surgical skill in the field. She strongly emphasises the importance of educating her patients as well as improving the publics' awareness of the advances of non-surgical treatments for facial and skin rejuvenation by holding regular open days and seminars both in and out of her clinics.
During her surgical career, Miss Balaratnam successfully obtained a Masters degree at the University College of London in the field of Surgical Science and Cancer Biology, with publications in several peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences.
