What Is Save Face and Why Does It Matter?

Have you found yourself wondering what Save Face is? If you don’t already know, you certainly won’t know just how important it is within the aesthetics industry, but there’s no need to worry. I’m here to tell you everything you need to know about this organisation and why it’s so important that they’re one I am registered with as Appearance Based Medicine’s sole practitioner

So, What Is Save Face?
In a nutshell, it’s a national register of health professionals who are trained and qualified to carry out non-surgical treatments, including dermal fillers and wrinkle-relaxing injections. Save Face’s legitimacy is illustrated by the fact that it is recognised by the government (including the Department of Health), NHS England and CQC (Care Quality Commission)

Doctors, nurses, dentists and clinics that offer non-surgical treatments can all become registered as long as the staff within said clinics have the qualifications necessary to carry out treatments safely.

This may sound somewhat obvious but, in recent years, there’s been a huge influx in the number of untrained individuals offering aesthetic treatments and, for several reasons, these individuals end up performing treatments that have unfortunate and dangerous consequences

There are a number of things that Save Face looks at before giving a business or individual their seal of approval. These include, but are not limited to, the following: qualification checks, on-site assessments, self-assessments and patient questionnaires. This set of rigorous processes allows them to reassure potential patients that the clinic they’re considering is worth their time, effort and hard-earned money.

There have been ongoing talks about introducing a licensing scheme in the UK but until then, institutions such as Save Face are reliable and readily accessible. They give the public a sense of confidence and allow them to place their trust in people who run reputable clinics. Checking that your clinic or practitioner of choice is registered is a surefire way to ensure high-quality treatment. You can see Appearance Based Medicine’s page here.

Why Is Registration Important to Me?

Sadly, regulation in the industry is quite low but joining a body such as Save Face shows an individual’s willingness to prove their qualifications and skills are up-to-date and credible.

Personally, I take great pride in sitting on the organisation’s Professional Advisory Board and I have done so since its creation in 2014. This means that I’ve not only helped to define ‘best practice’ but I’ve also campaigned for more rigorous regulation of the aesthetics industry to ensure all patients receive safe treatments, no matter what clinic they choose.

The importance of this work is highlighted in the ways in which I carry out procedures at Appearance Based Medicine. Ever since I first started my own practice in 2004, it’s been my intention to deliver advanced, patient-focused treatments. I always build treatment journeys around my patients’ individual needs as skin health will always be a deeply personal matter.

When Appearance Based Medicine was founded, I promised that I would support my patients in any way possible and if my registration with Save Face makes them feel safer and more confident, I believe it should be something that all practitioners across the UK should consider.
