Dr David Eccleston

Dr David Eccleston qualified in medicine in 1987 from the University of Birmingham's Medical School, going on to undertake further training in dermatology, ENT, ophthalmology, obstetrics, and gynaecology before entering general practice. His interest in cosmetic dermatology first developed in 1993 while working as an NHS GP, where he began receiving personal training from internationally recognised specialists in the field, including Professor Jean Carruthers, the Canadian physician credited with pioneering the use of anti-wrinkle injections for aesthetic purposes in the late 1980s.

Dr Eccleston has nearly 30 years of experience administering anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers, making him one of the longest-serving aesthetic practitioners in the UK. He is the only medical practitioner in the country to have served as a lead investigator in clinical trials on the first UK-licensed brands of anti-wrinkle injections, and he maintains an active research interest alongside his clinical work. His specialist areas include botulinum toxin therapy, dermal fillers, non-surgical facial rejuvenation, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, and medical-grade skincare, treating patients at both MediZen and The Oakley Medical Practice in Sutton Coldfield.

Dr Eccleston is an International Key Opinion Leader in aesthetic medicine and a Faculty Member of the International ACE Complications Group. He has educated more than 10,000 practitioners worldwide, travelling to Australia, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. He founded The MediZen Academy, a dedicated training centre in Sutton Coldfield, to support this work. He has been recognised as Aesthetic Doctor of the Year, named in Tatler's Man in the Midlands, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Safety In Beauty Awards in recognition of his contribution to raising standards and safety in the aesthetics sector over more than 25 years. He has also been published in clinical studies, featured in national press, and appeared in television and radio interviews on the subject of non-surgical aesthetics.

Dr Eccleston currently serves as Clinical Director of MediZen, the Birmingham aesthetic clinic he co-founded in 1999, and as a co-founder of The Oakley Partnership Private Medical Practice in Sutton Coldfield, which he established in 2014. Every practitioner at MediZen has been personally trained and mentored by Dr Eccleston, reflecting his commitment to maintaining clinical standards across his teams. He works closely as an adviser and trainer with several major aesthetic product and equipment providers, and he continues to see private patients seeking both aesthetic treatments and private GP services.
