As we age the muscles in the neck, platysma, which support the head and facial tissue can weaken. These weakened platysmal bands can also pull the facial muscles downwards causing sagging and wrinkling to the skin in the face and neck. Similarly, the platysmal muscles can start to show through the skin of the neck more readily as we age, leading to what it pleasantly referred to as a ‘turkey neck’.
