Question: I really need some Thread Lift help...

I hope you can help with my PDO nightmare. am so, so desperate now for some help, and I don’t know where else to turn. I’m not the type of person who usually goes for beauty treatments—this was a very random decision for me. My sister had PDO threads done at the same place, and I thought, "I’m 34, maybe I should start doing more." Before this, the only thing I’d ever done was a bit of Botox twice a year. I wasn’t given much information before the treatment, wasn’t shown how many threads would be used or where they’d be placed, and there was no patch test. In hindsight, it was a horrible, backstreet beauty salon, and I must have had a moment of insanity to go through with it.

After having the PDO thread treatment in January, one of the threads came out almost immediately. A couple of weeks later, red marks started appearing around my eyebrows, and things have only gotten worse since then. The threads keep surfacing, causing scarring, constant discomfort, and distress that has lasted for over six months now.

I didn’t even go back for the 6-week top-up because I realized it had been a mistake (thank God), but the damage was done. This has completely destroyed me, both physically and mentally. I used to be a fitness fanatic, swimming every day and walking 20,000 steps. Now, I’ve been locked away, and I’ve gained a terrible amount of weight. I don’t recognize myself anymore and hate the person I’ve become.

It’s affected my confidence, my ability to work, and overall, I’ve felt like I’m losing my mind. Some days, it even felt like my forehead was going to rip open—I honestly didn’t know how to cope.

I’ve exhausted every option. I’ve tried both the NHS and private healthcare, but no one seems to know how to help. I’ve been advised to take legal action, but I don’t know if it’s worth the emotional and financial pressure. All I have as evidence are photos and videos, and none of the medical professionals I’ve seen so far are familiar with this treatment.

I feel completely lost, and I need advice on whether it’s even worth pursuing this further.

Thanks you!

Answer: Good Morning,

Thank you for your enquiry. Unfortunately as we do not offer this treatment, we would not be able to help if there are any post treatment issues, I would recommend looking for a clinic that actually does this treatment for advice.

I'm sorry we could not help on this occasion.

Answer: Hello Rachael

My heart sinks when I read or hear of the severe consequences of not choosing a qualified medical professional for a medical procedure. The fact that you have referred to threads as a beauty treatment and not a minor surgical procedure.

The government(s) over the past 10 years post commissioning a report by the Chief Medical Officer Dr Keogh have not implemented the recommended legislation to protect you by preventing people with NO medical training, many don\'t even have a GCSE in biology from inserting needles and placing threads, dermal filler implants and threads into anyone\'s face or body.
PDO threads should dissolve over 4-6 months. The scarring you have mentioned may be improved with microneedling or laser have a face to face consultation in a regulated clinic.
Health Improvement Scotland for Scottish clinics or CQC registered in England and Wales both have registers that you can look up that the clinic is inspected. Always check registers trust no-one.
PDO threads as a procedure in England can only be carried out at a CQC regulated clinic so you can report the clinic/ provider to environment health via your council website. Then will visit and inspect and can bring a prosecution.
I know this may feel uncomfortable but until individuals act more people will be harmed physically and psychological. Last week a young woman died from having filler injected into her bottom by a self professed \'King of Aesthetics\' actually a reality TV star with no medical training. This is a procedure even Plastic Surgeons didn\'t carry out for years it is so dangerous.
These providers KNOW they should not be injecting into someone\'s face or body, just because it is not illegal does not make it ethically right. If you are in Scotland you are welcome to come and have a face to face consultation at my Edinburgh clinic. Kind regards
Dr Victoria
