We all know that we need to take care of the skin on our face but have you ever considered that skincare shouldn’t stop at your jaw?

You should be considering you neck as part of your daily skincare routine and tweakment schedule. We spoke to  Dr Vix Manning on behalf of global medical aesthetics company Sinclair to get the low down on how to care for your neck and why Lanluma by Sinclair is a top product choice if considering a tweakment.

How does the neck show signs of ageing?

‘In my 20 years of aesthetic practice, I have always found the neck to be the trickiest area to treat due to its thin delicate skin and minimal fatty tissue. It can show signs of ageing in various ways. Some common signs include sagging skin, the classic “Turkey Neck” wrinkles, fine lines, and the development of vertical bands or folds, in addition to the loss of the cervico-mental angle giving us a double chin appearance.  As we age, the skin on the neck  also becomes thinner and less elastic, leading to these visible changes.’

Should you be applying skincare to your neck?

‘It is vitally important to apply skincare to your neck as part of your daily routine. Many of my patients tend to focus solely on their face when it comes to skincare, but the neck is also susceptible to the effects of ageing and environmental damage. Applying skincare products to the neck can help hydrate the skin, improve its texture, and minimise the appearance of wrinkles and lines. AND don’t forget the SPF!’

What products would you recommend?

‘When it comes to skincare products for the neck, it is recommended to use those specifically formulated for this area. Look for products that contain ingredients known to promote collagen production, such as retinol or peptides. Moisturisers with hyaluronic acid can help hydrate and plump the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines. Additionally, using a broad-spectrum sunscreen on your neck can protect it from further sun damage.’

Can you have tweakments to reduce lines and folds on the neck?

‘Tweakments can also be used to reduce lines and folds on the neck. These may include treatments like radiofrequency, ultrasound, toxins  or injectable fillers, which can help tighten the skin, stimulate collagen production, and improve the overall appearance of the neck.

Lanluma is a fabulous collagen stimulator made out of PLLA, While it is primarily used for facial treatments, it is often used on multiple parts of the body including the neck ti improve skin laxity and skin condition. For Lanluma to be used for the neck area it is important to see a qualified practitioner in order for correct reconstitution and dilution of the product and correct placement.1-2 treatments may be necessary over a 3-6 month period for optimal results

Before considering any treatment, it is best to consult with a qualified aesthetic professional who can assess your individual needs and determine the most suitable treatment options for your neck. They will be able to provide personalised recommendations based on your specific concerns and goals.’

What else impacts the appearance of the neck?

‘In addition to skincare and professional treatments, there are other ways to improve the appearance of the neck. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate hydration, can contribute to overall skin health. Avoiding excessive sun exposure, smoking, and harsh chemicals can also help prevent further damage to the neck. Finally, practising good posture can make a noticeable difference in the appearance of the neck, as slouching can contribute to the development of neck folds and wrinkles.’
