Biography & Background

Dr Leonie Schelke is a Dutch cosmetic doctor registered with the KNMG, practising non-surgical cosmetic medicine with a specific focus on the safe use of injectable treatments. She has worked in the field of aesthetic medicine since 2000, building a private practice in Amsterdam alongside a long-standing role at Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. She is assistant professor at the Department of Dermatology. For the past 15 years, she and her colleagues have run a dedicated outpatient clinic for filler complications three days a week.

Dr Schelke now has more than twenty years of experience in the treatment of injectables, including botulinum toxin and dermal fillers. In 2020, she was awarded a PhD for research into the use of duplex ultrasound in the management of vascular complications following filler treatment. To date, she has co-authored 54 publications in the fields of facial ultrasound, facial anatomy, dermal fillers, and filler complications.

Dr Schelke is a teacher within the Dutch certified educational programme for cosmetic medicine and is co-founder and trainer of CutaneoUS, an organisation providing ultrasound courses for cosmetic medicine and dermatology. She is recognised as an Academy expert by IMCAS, where she has contributed nineteen video lectures on topics including ultrasound-guided filler injection, vascular complication management, and tissue behaviour in filler treatment. She continues to lecture at international conferences on the role of ultrasound in injectable safety.
