Protruding ears can be a problem from an early age for young children who may be teased at school. Surgical correction of this is one of the few cosmetic operations performed on children.
It also tends to be a more common option for males who wear their hair shorter.
The most common procedure is to correct ears, which stick out by setting them back closer to the head known as ear pinning.
Cosmetic ear surgery can also reshape the cartilage in ears with unnatural shapes, reduce large ears or increase the size of very small ears. Procedures can also be done to reduce large or stretched earlobes, or large creases and wrinkles in the ear. Ear surgery can even involve rebuilding new ears for patients born without lobes or after an injury.
