PRP Therapy At Bijoux Medi-spa
What does the PRP do to the tissues? Once the platelets are activated they break up and release their growth factor contents. The growth factors act as chemical messengers that attract fibroblasts to the area. Fibroblasts bring about the repair of old and creation of new tissue, depending on the site of the injection. Thus growth factors (from PRP) injected into cartilage will stimulate growth and repair of cartilage, that injected into muscle will create and repair muscle and that injected into dermis will create and repair dermis. This is why PRP is so exciting but also why PRP treatment should be aimed at old or damaged tissue rather than tissue that is completely absent or destroyed. Indications In the UK most PRP treatments are for aesthetic indications including skin quality and hair loss, although in Europe PRP is well accepted as a treatment for musculoskeletal injuries, degeneration and disease. Most of the research has been done on degenerative problems such as arthritis and tendonitis. PRP is practised all over the UK for orthopaedic indications but is not necessarily organised or easily available to the public. This is probably because Orthopaedic Surgeons are more interested in healing their patients than developing websites. What sort of problems can be treated with PRP? Osteoarthritis Degenerative diseases - arthritis (knee, wrist, fingers, small joints) Muscle tears Sports injuries Tendon problems; tendinitis, weak and ruptured tendons (Achilles Tendon) Ligament injuries Foot injuries (Plantar Fasciitis) Musculoskeletal injuries and degeneration With an ageing population and more individuals enjoying the benefit of sport PRP will find itself used more and more. Continental doctors are well aware of the healing qualities of PRP and the desire of the patients to remain fit and active as long as possible. PRP replaces cortisone treatments to shoulders, wrists, knees and elbows and speeds up the healing process. It regenerates damaged muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments. It reduces pain almost immediately. PRP is injected directly into the injured tissues and in the surrounding muscles using ultrasound guidance. This is a simple, outpatient procedure with no need for anaesthetic and immediate return to normal activities. What effects can I expect? Less inflammation and pain Accelerated healing of damaged tissues (tendons, cartilage, muscle) Increased joint and muscular mobility and functionality Shorter recovery time Are there any conditions where PRP is not recommended? Luckily there are few contraindications. However, you must respect these. Platelet or coagulation disorders, use of anti-coagulants. Infection at the site of injury. The treating surgeon will check your health status before undergoing any treatment.

PDO threads originate from the Far East, mostly South Korea. They are specialists at micro-engineering and their threads are based on PDO (polydioxanone) used as surgical sutures for over thirty years. These, too, dissolve after eight months, generating new collagen throughout that period. The Korean system has been used to make round oriental faces into longer, heart-shaped European ones and to make the large round heavy low face more angular, more pointed. We have adapted the technique for use on faces of all shapes and sizes and use the V Soft brand which has a CE mark. V Soft will achieve a subtle lift of the low face, adding generalised volume and refreshing the complexion. The threads can be concentrated around any problem area so are very versatile. They can be used for the whole face or certain areas such as the neck, mid-face or forehead. They can revitalise a previous face lift and complete a Silhouette Soft lift. Barbed threads are now available. These PDO threads include a unidirectional barb in their design that holds onto the tissues allowing both lift and volume. They fall between the simple PDO threads and Silhouette in their lifting capacity and are recommended for the forehead, cheeks and neck. They can be incorporated into a standard V soft treatment or a Silhouette treatment. The exciting aspect of threading is that they are all compatible and can be used in one treatment or over a period of time. The advantage is one of cost, simplicity in insertion and procedure time.
How can Dermal Fillers restore volume ot the cheeks?
Even those people with good bone structure lose the fatty tissue over their cheeks, and this is the aspect that we are rejuvenating, the lateral part of the face rather than the central apples. Replacing volume over the cheekbones themselves in a subtle way will return the face to its youthful appearance, lift the low face and enhance the eyes. Many people seeking treatment are afraid to look ridiculous. This can occur if there is too much filler in the wrong place - normally the central area and close to the eyes. We do not do this. We respect the anatomy of the face and the desires of the client.
What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy?
This is the most exciting treatment that we offer in that it appears to be able to reverse the effects of age on the tissues of the face, in fact any treatment area. Plasma therapy was developed to repair injured and inflamed tendons, periodontal areas and other parts of the body that can be slow to heal. Now we use it on the face to revitalise all the tissues; skin, fat pads, muscle and most excitingly, the bone. The key to a successful treatment is how the blood and platelets are treated during the extraction process. The vital growth factors are held within the fragile platelets. Rupture or activation of the platelets too early in the process means that the growth factors will start to degrade and be less active. We use the PROTEAL system (a trade-marked process) that preserves the integrity of the platelets right up to the injection. Some growth factors are found in the plasma itself. Many systems separate the platelets from the plasma, use the platelet rich plasma (PRP) then discard the plasma that is poor in platelets (platelet poor plasma). Many good growth factors are thrown away in this process. This is why we use all of the plasma that has been harvested. The reality is that we are still learning about the science and developing the technique. This is one of the most exciting areas of medicine. We can use our own plasma to heal ourselves. Furthermore the tissues are so intelligent that they respond only as necessary, according to our personal blueprint held in our DNA. PRP can be injected anywhere to achieve rejuvenation. Scars, however old, respond well. The delicate eye area responds well to PRP, likewise skin quality. The number of treatments depends on the condition of the skin or underlying tissues. A young person who wishes to maintain their looks might just need one treatment per year. Three treatments one month apart are recommended for most people. Maintain the results with a yearly treatment. Plasma can be administered with fillers at the same treatment in order to achieve instant volume and rejuvenation. Plasma aids healing from fractional resurfacing, Dermaroller and other invasive methods of rejuvenation. Wherever you need healing, think plasma. The treatment is not painful although numbing cream is available. It is administered with a fine needle. It swells a bit afterwards and can bruise occasionally. The best results are seen three months after the treatment. People will just say that you look well. Plasma can also be used for acne scars, post-operative and burn scars. It can be used for tendinitis, muscle injuries and in fact anywhere that requires repair and regeneration.
