Liposomal supplements are a type of dietary supplement that uses liposomes, small spherical structures made of phospholipids, to improve the delivery of nutrients to the body.

Liposomes act as tiny protective bubbles that surround the nutrients, allowing them to survive digestion and be absorbed more efficiently by the body. This can result in increased bioavailability and efficacy of the nutrients, as well as reduced side effects. Liposomal supplements are commonly used to deliver nutrients such as vitamin C, curcumin, and glutathione, among others.

They are available in various forms and are typically used to support overall health and wellness.

We discuss how to spot the real deal by talking about all things liposomal with Altrient.
Altrient pioneered the use of Liposomal Encapsulation Technology in 2004, helping to spread awareness around the absorption benefits of liposomal vitamin delivery. Unfortunately, the industry is poorly regulated, and it can be difficult to spot a true liposomal product. The word 'liposomal' coupled with the higher price tag versus regular vitamin supplements unfortunately does not guarantee that you are buying a true liposomal product.

Altrient is the original liposomal vitamin brand that is recommended by those who #KnowBetter the world’s leading doctors, nutritionists, health coaches, beauty experts, fitness gurus, wellbeing journalists…and those who listen to them.
Liposomal Supplements

Altrient’s #KnowBetter campaign brings together the crème de la crème who take a holistic approach to health and well-being to champion supplements that are effective and educate consumers about what to look out for as well as highlighting the lack of regulation and accountability in the health and beauty industry.

How to identify a quality liposomal formulation

  • Ideally, the product should be liquid or gel, not a capsule
  • A watery product would suggest that there are not enough phospholipids in the product or that the quality of the phospholipids is not up to standard to make liposomes
  • If you have determined that the product is indeed liposomal, you then need to ask for proof that the liposomes actually contain vitamin C
  • Ask brands and retailers for evidence
  • Research the manufacturer’s testing procedures and independent clinical trials
  • Research the manufacturer’s quality assurance – third-party verification
  • Finally, whilst a formula can be of high quality in a bottle, opening and closing regularly can result in it destabilising. A high-quality product in a sachet will maintain its quality as it is not exposed to oxidation.

What is the trusted evidence in liposomal supplements?

  • Altrient C has several double-blind placebo-controlled studies
  • Their double-blind placebo-controlled study revealed an increase in skin elasticity of 61% by taking 3 sachets a day for 3 months and by 35% by taking 1 sachet a day for 3 months
  • Their products are designed to deliver maximised absorption through a patented LET process
  • their pure formulations are Non-GMO, vegan, free from sugars, artificial sweeteners, flavours, colours, and glycerine
  • Altrient products are extensively tested for quality control- Every batch of Altrient is tested to ensure a high level of encapsulation and liposome stability.

How is Altrient’s liposomal products/manufactured & quality assured?

Jonathan Orchard, Founder & Director of Abundance & Health says –

“Altrient have been leading the way in research and formulation of liposomal vitamin supplements, using a patented process, for nearly two decades and take quality very seriously. They adhere to some of the most demanding safety and quality standards in the industry following 3 core principles: exceptional liposomal formulas, high-quality ingredients and testing everything!”

Each Altrient product spends longer than usual in research and development, at least 24 months, in order to properly monitor liposomal integrity and stability. Every incoming batch of ingredients is tested for identity, strength, and purity with an independent accredited laboratory. Altrient’s liposomes are made from a special high-grade blend of phospholipids extracted from Identity Preserved (IP) soya lecithin - meaning the plant’s origin and identity are tracked thoroughly and guaranteed to be non-GMO from soil to harvest. To verify the materials are non-GMO, each product is routinely tested for DNA markers.

Altrient C is free from sugars, gluten, glycerin, hexane, artificial sweeteners, flavours, and colourings and preserved with a tiny amount of ethanol, a very pure form of alcohol, derived from non-GMO mixed grain. This prevents microbial growth in the sachets guaranteeing that they are safe to use.

The amount of ethanol used in each sachet is equivalent to a teaspoon of red wine 0.5%. Small quantities of ethanol in the blood are metabolised rapidly, unlike the medium-to-large amounts ingested in a beverage. After extensive research into preservative options, ethanol was chosen by Altrient as the safest, purest and most effective natural preservative to use in the products. Those who wish can leave the Altrient sachet open for 30 mins prior to consumption and the alcohol will almost completely evaporate.

Before a formula is approved, multiple samples of the formula are made using the LivOn Labs patented liposomal encapsulation process and stored at temperatures ranging from freezing (-20°C/-4°F) to high heat (50°C/122°F). Samples are tested at regular intervals for active ingredient content, changes in consistency, and encapsulation efficiency of the active nutrient. After a formula passes the initial testing, larger test batches are made and packaged, in an oxygen-free environment, for long-term stability monitoring at refrigerator (5°C/41°F) and room temperatures (20°C/68°F).

All Altrient products are also approved by the European Food Safety Authority
