After the personal experience of hair loss and realising the significant impact it could have, I began a journey of learning about hair and scalp issues, which has been continued over a period of nearly 20 years.
I have been a GP since 1999, and like many UK GPs only received one week of training in skin and hair before qualifying. Unable to find a suitable in-depth course at the time for GPs, I completed the 2-year Trichology Course with the Institute of Trichologists gaining a distinction in both years, being the only student in my cohort to do so. I was also honoured to have been awarded the John Mason Memorial Prize for Excellence, which is only granted when there is a ‘candidate of high enough calibre to merit it’.
I continually update myself by membership in various professional organizations relevant to hair and skin as well as regularly writing content published for both the public and other professionals. I use technology from the Aesthetics Sector in helping people to tackle hair loss, and have presented at aesthetic conferences on this subject. I receive regular Medline alerts to be aware of what has been published in the peer-reviewed medical literature.
