Question: Skin issues after B12 injections by GP

I was found to have a severe B12 deficiency. I was given 6 injections across two weeks by my GP and has since got a rash / pimples which is getting worse.

Around my chin and temples it feels like I have sand I can wipe off but there’s the odd pimple on my chin, back and neck sine of which turn yellow.

I was given hydrocortisone cream but it did nothing so I’ve got Benzoyl peroxide 5% / Clindamycin 1% gel
Apply Once A Day In The Evening
30 gram but haven’t started yet as they said I could react. It’s hardly noticeable to there unless I point it out but I’m really conscious as it’s getting worse. Any ideas?

Answer: Skin reactions, breakouts and acne-like spots can occur after B12 injections.
The issue is usually temporary and will clear up with a supporting skincare routine

Gently cleansing with a SLS detergent / sulphate free face wash perhaps with low percentage of salicylic , mandelic and lactic acids (less than 1%) massaged gently into wet skin for a minute then rinsed off with warm water and a clean face cloth can help the "sand paper" texture and blemishes.
Apply a lightweight moisturising SPF daily to prevent the blemish marks turning brown.

Ensure you cleanse again at night to remove the SPF - and apply a hydrating moisturiser - perhaps one with some niacinamide content.

LED Light therapy can help but not if you start to use the Benzoyl peroxide 5% / Clindamycin 1% gel as these ingredients make skin sensitive to light

Gut health and diet are important to support the B12 deficincy and absorbtion of nutrients

Answer: Hello ,

Firstly, it will be good to see the type of rash you developed . It is possible it could be an allergic reaction although I would have expected a generalised rash rather than a localised one . There is a possibility from your description that it could be peri-oral dermatitis , nevertheless the only way to truly say what it is would be through an assessment so please feel free to contact skeendeep medical aesthetics clinic through their profile .

Answer: Dear Joolzh 13, my advice is to book a consultation. Acne is very complex and without a full medical history and seeing the skin is impossible to help.
