<p>Until now the only worthwhile solution for <a title="wrinkles" href="/conditions/Lines-and-Wrinkles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrinkles</a> around the eyes or loose upper and lower eyelid skin was surgery. Although eyelid surgery is very safe and effective, as with any surgical procedure it can have certain risks and downtime for recovery. Fortunately, now there is a non-surgical alternative.</p>
<p><a title="Fractional eyelift" href="/treatment/blepharoplasty-eyelid-surgery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fractional eyelift</a> utilizes an innovative fractional CO2 laser which creates tiny microscopic channels in the tissues and stimulates a healing response. It stimulates new collagen growth, skin tightening and skin rejuvenation.  It can help reduce wrinkles around the eyes, tighten eyelid skin and reduce <a title="crow’s feet" href="/conditions/eyes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crow’s feet</a>, <a title="dark circles" href="/conditions/tear-trough/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dark circles</a> or drooping eyebrows.</p>
<p>It cannot correct excessive loose skin and in this situation, surgery would be the answer.</p>

<p>Fractional eyelift utilizes an innovative fractional CO2 laser which creates tiny microscopic channels in the tissues and stimulates healing response. It stimulates new collagen growth, skin tightening and skin rejuvenation.  It can help reduce wrinkles around the eyes, tighten eyelid skin and reduce crow’s feet, dark circles or drooping eyebrows. It cannot correct excessive loose skin and in this situation surgery would be the answer.</p>
<p>I use Smartxide DOT fractional CO2 laser in my clinic for this procedure. Local anaesthetic cream is applied to the eyelids and skin around the eyes to numb it. Local anaesthetic eye drops are used before placing metal shields to protect the eyes. Laser beam is then used all over the eyelids and skin around the eyes. </p>
<p>There is immediate visible skin tightening and redness like a mild sun burn. This is followed by 2-3 days of mild redness and dryness in the treated area; one can use make up and usually return to normal activities in 3 days time. </p>
<p>So, is there a medical blepharoplasty available now? Yes, it can certainly help in early stages of skin ageing. This is a relatively new procedure and with further evolution and refinements in technology and technique I would expect the results to get even better. </p>
<p>Enclosed pictures show results after just one session in my clinic. Notice the tightening of upper eyelid skin and improvement in crow's feet area.</p>
