The treatment of Lipotherapy or Injection Lipolysis, whereby a substance is injected into stubborn pockets of fat in order to reduce them by causing their destruction and elimination by the body has been a highly controversial one, with much talk about safety and efficacy of the various products on the market.
One such treatment, Lipostabil®, which was also marketed as Flabjab™, Lipomelt, Liposdissolve and Fat-Away, was being unlawfully advertised in the UK as a cosmetic product for the reduction of fat over a decade ago. Please see below for more information on the issues with this product.
AQUALYX™, introduced to the UK in 2013, is an injectable treatment of deoxycholate solution (containing deoxycholic acid) which is being marketed for ‘Aqualysis’ or ‘Aquaplasty’ treatment as a means of treating localised pockets of fat underneath the surface of the skin. It dissolves or liquefies fat cells once injected and the resulting fatty acids can then be excreted through the body’s lymphatic system.
