Thread veins or spider veins, medically known as telangiectasia, are tiny blood vessels that most commonly appear on the face and legs in both men and women. They are usually purple/blue or red in colour and are considered harmless, although many people find them cosmetically dissatisfying so seek ways to remove them. Having thread veins on the legs can put both men and women off from wearing shorts and skirts in the summer months. It’s important to note that the appearance of surface thread veins on the legs can be an early sign of vascular compromise deeper in the leg, so a proper medical check of vascular function may be worthwhile.
