Although mostly seen in women, rosacea is a very common and chronic skin condition usually affecting the face of both men and women. Rosacea is mostly apparent as permanent redness across the cheeks and regular or persistent flushing which is sometimes triggered by sunlight, alcohol or spicy food. Usually, you will notice visible blood vessels underneath the surface of the skin and some people report a burning or stinging sensation in the area. In men, a thickened area around the nose, called rhinophyma is also associated with rosacea. There are various types of rosacea including inflammatory, vascular, phymatous, ocular and neurogenic. The most common are the inflammatory and vascular forms.
