Vascular abnormalities come in a variety of shapes, sizes and severity, from simple cherry angiomas which look like red freckles to significant port wine stains across the face. These commonly start in childhood or are present at birth. Spider angiomas tend to have small blood vessels coming out from the central red spot and thus look like a spider’s web. Treatments range from simple camouflage to hide any red marks, through to targeted treatments aimed at reducing the vascularisation in the area and stopping the abnormal blood flow. Angiomas are non-harmful and usually only removed due to being cosmetically dissatisfying, whilst port wine stains often need medical intervention from an early age as they can grow with the individual, darken and lead to more serious skin damage.
