The biggest single damage to the skin is from the sun. Exposure to ultraviolet or UV radiation from the sun in the form of UVA and UVB rays can have an effect on skin pigmentation, creating so-called age, sun or liver spots (nothing to do with the liver) which are small, brown, freckle-like spots usually occurring on the face, but also extending to the arms and decolletage or chest area on women, which is often exposed to the sun due to low necklines. These are actually called actinic lentigines. Treatments seek to improve or remove the appearance of the pigmentation blemishes. Protecting your skin from sun damage using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor) used daily is also recommended.
