Having launched Puragen™ in late 2005, designed for the treatment of moderate to deep lines and wrinkles, Mentor Corporation went on to launch Prevelle™ in the UK in late 2007, a sister product aimed at fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, eyes and forehead.
Despite this joint portfolio Mentor is keen to highlight that the products are in fact distinct and technologically different, however they are meant to complement one another.
Unlike Puragen™, which is double cross-linked, Prevelle™ is a single cross-linked product. It is made from a non-animal source of hyaluronic acid and is designed for a much more superficial injection level than Puragen™.
Given the recent introduction, you may only come across a few practitioners using this product currently.
Non-Animal Hyaluronic Acid (NaHA) gel.
Prevelle™ is a non-animal-based, hyaluronic acid dermal filler derived from bacterial fermentation.
It has a low concentration of 5mg/ml of hyaluronic acid.
No allergy test needed.
Hyaluronic acid is completely broken down within the skin over a period of months, eventually leaving no trace of the filler.
Prevelle™ is approved as a CE-marked medical device in Europe.
FDA approval in the US is currently pending.
Trained members of the medical profession only.
Prevelle™
Prevelle™ is commonly used to smooth moderate to fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead and glabellar (frown lines between the eyebrows), around the eyes (crow’s feet), around the mouth (smoker’s lines) and for enhancing the vermillion border (lip line).
Prevelle™ Plus
Prevelle™ Plus, which contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, will be released in the near future according to the manufacturers.
Individuals with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid.
The length of time Prevelle™ will last depends on various factors such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, treatment area, and the injection technique of the practitioner.
Transient erythema (redness), swelling, pain, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the implant site. Typically resolution is spontaneous, within one or two days after injection into the skin.
This depends on the area treated and how much is required, and the practitioner doing the treatment, but price ranges are in the region of £200 - £300 per syringe of Prevelle™.
