Viscontour® is an injectable and topical hyaluronic brand from Sanofi Aventis, the makers of Sculptra™.
The injection of Viscontour® is targeted at a broad range of treatment areas, helping to hydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face, neck, décolletage (the area between the neck and breasts) and hands; in combination with the topical application of Viscontour® (Hyaluronic Acid) Serum.
Non-Animal Hyaluronic Acid (NaHA) gel.
Viscontour® contains pure hyaluronic acid, a biopolymer that occurs naturally in the body
Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in all living organisms and is a universal component of the spaces between the cells of body tissues (extracellular space). It is a polysaccharide (complex carbohydrate made from sugar molecules) that has an identical chemical structure, no matter whether it is found in simple bacteria or in human beings.
Hyaluronic acid can retain 500 times its own volume in water, swelling to plump out the skin and intensively hydrate it from within. This hydrating property not only helps the skin to look and feel firmer, but also aids in the transport of essential nutrients from the bloodstream to the skin cells.
As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the skin diminishes, as the skin cells lose their ability to produce hyaluronic acid.
Viscontour® contains pure hyaluronic acid manufactured using a bacterial fermentation process – it is not derived from any animal or human tissue sources.
No allergy test needed.
Hyaluronic acid is completely broken down within the skin over a period of months, eventually leaving no trace of the filler.

Viscontour®
Viscontour® is provided to healthcare professionals in a 1.0 ml pre-packaged disposable syringe.
Viscontour® can be injected for the treatment of:
Viscontour® Serum
Viscontour® Hyaluronic Acid Serum used daily in the area treated can help maximise the effect of Viscontour® injections, according to clinical trials.
The manufacturers state that the excellent hydrating properties of the serum alone make it an ideal topical treatment for post microdermabrasion or post chemical peel as well.
Individuals with a known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid.
It is not advisable to inject Viscontour® into infected or inflamed areas of the skin, such as cold sores.
Studies have not been performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Although Viscontour® is not thought to be dangerous; treatment is best avoided during this time.
As hyaluronic acid is completely broken down within the skin over a period of months, the course of treatment typically includes two to three build-up injections at 14-day intervals followed by a booster injection after three to six months. Further top ups may be required every 6 months or so.
Clinical studies have shown that three sessions of treatment with Viscontour® achieve the desired result in nearly all cases. 80% of people were also still satisfied with the result three months after treatment.
The studies also showed that additional home use of Viscontour® Serum can help to maximise and prolong the benefits of Viscontour® treatment.
Transient erythema (redness), swelling, pain, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the implant site. Typically resolution is spontaneous, within one or two days after injection into the skin.
Studies examining the tissue tolerability of Viscontour® did not detect any long term side effects – however other treatments using hyaluronic acid products have occasionally resulted in temporary palpable lumpiness or localised reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature. These are extremely rare affecting about 1 in every 10,000 treated patients.
This depends on the area treated and how much is required (two syringes are normally required for rejuvenation of facial areas), and the practitioner doing the treatment, but price ranges are in the region of £200 per treatment, plus approximately £50 per pack of Viscontour® Serum.
