We have asked a third party company, Thermo Fisher Scientific to store cells for 5 years from mid February 2007. Thermo Fisher Scientific has been licensed by the Human Tissue Authority as a suitable establishment for storage of human tissue. Isolagen will pay for the storage of the cells for this period. This period is over and above the free 12 months cryogenic cell storage from the date of biopsy that we have agreed in the origianl patient consent form, and is made as a gesture of goodwill.</div>

It is the first and only natural process to use the patient’s own cells to repair and rejuvenate the skin.<br /><br />Isolagen® is based on the fact that the human body has the ability to repair itself, but due to factors such as ageing, oxidation, and environmental damage, the cellular components required for skin repair may be depleted.<br /><br />The Isolagen® process enables the body to increase collagen production by introducing more collagen producing cells to specific areas. These cells will continue to stimulate collagen production over many years.<br /><br />A 4mm skin sample is taken from behind the ear by a trained Isolagen® medical professional. The sample is taken to the Isolagen® Cellular Facility. Here the fibroblasts (the collagen producing cells) are grown to a large quantity using the patented Isolagen® cell expansion process. After an eight to ten week period, you receive the first treatment of newly grown cells. This is followed by two more treatments at 30 - 45 days apart. These times depend on how the cells are growing as not all patient’s cells grow at the same rate.<br /><br />Due to higher treatment costs and a more involved procedure, Isolagen® is not commonly used in the U.K..<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Generic name</span><br />Isolagen®.<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">How is it made?</span><br />A 4mm sample of skin is taken from behind the ear on the soft skin below the hairline, using a punch biopsy under local anaesthetic. This site is not usually sun damaged, and has been substantially free from other contaminants, such as cigarette smoke. The skin samples contain fibroblast cells (those responsible for producing collagen). The biopsy is then placed in a sterile container and sent to the Isolagen® Cellular Facility. <br /><br />Usually, it takes eight to ten weeks for the collagen producing cells (fibroblasts) to expand into large numbers. The rate of growth cannot be influenced. They grow at the rate that nature intends in the special environment provided. During this period the cells go through rigorous testing to ensure that they are healthy and growing well. <br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Is a skin test required before treatment?</span> <br />No.<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Is it temporary or permanent?</span> <br />Lastest studies have revealed patients are still seeing improvement after 7 years since last injection. <br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Should be used by </span><br />Trained members of the medical profession only.<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Product uses</span> <br />Isolagen® claims to be an effective long lasting treatment for facial lines, wrinkles and scars and acne scarring.<br /><br />Areas where Isolagen® may be particularly effective include: <br /><br />Rhytids – including frown lines, glabellar lines, periorbital (crow’s feet), perioral lines, vermillion border and melolabial lines (marionette lines), nasolabial folds, distensible acne scars and trauma scars, other soft tissue defects or deficiencies.<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Not to be used in</span><br />No specific contra-indications.<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Duration of effect</span> <br />Long lasting for fine lines, wrinkles and scarring – in trials, patients experienced a continued improvement for up to 18-24 months with some patients continuing to benefit for up to seven years following treatment.<br /><br />As this procedure is new, however, no-one is entirely sure about the true duration of benefit.<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Reported side effects</span> <br />Slight redness with some patients clears up within hours.<br /><br /><span style="color: #a9a9a9; font-weight: bold">Costs</span><br />Costs start from around £2,900 for 2 x 2ml treatments of 2 areas of the face.</span></div>
