Edit Is there a link between toasted skin syndrome and an underlying health condition?

In some cases, yes. Toasted skin syndrome developing in an unusual location, or in someone without an obvious heat source history, can occasionally prompt investigation into underlying conditions that cause chronic localised pain — since prolonged heat use is sometimes the first visible indicator of unmanaged or undiagnosed pain. Conditions including endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain, and musculoskeletal disorders have all been associated with presentations of erythema ab igne as a secondary finding. A GP may enquire about pain management habits as part of a broader assessment.
