It’s best not to have a barrier, such as a desk, between you and the client; ideally sitting next to them (but not too close so that they feel you are invading their personal space) will help to ensure that the consultation feels more caring for the client and also helps if you are showing them pictures, or running through a presentation on a tablet etc.
