How Botox Works
Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a neurotoxic protein that can temporarily paralyse muscles when injected in small, controlled doses. In the case of neck bands, Botox is injected directly into the platysma muscle. The toxin blocks the nerve signals that cause the muscle to contract, allowing the bands to relax and the skin to appear smoother and less creased. This effect typically begins to show within a few days post-injection, with the maximum impact visible within two weeks.
To visualise the effect, imagine the platysma muscle as a tightly pulled rubber band. When Botox is applied, the tension in the rubber band is released, allowing it to return to a more relaxed state and smoothing out the surface above it.
