We see endless TV adverts relating to healthy eating, various diet plans or fitness videos, but I wonder how long it will be before we see advertisements for more drastic measures such as obesity or bariatric surgery on UK television screens?
We see endless TV adverts relating to healthy eating, various diet plans or fitness videos, but I wonder how long it will be before we see advertisements for more drastic measures such as obesity or bariatric surgery (like the one below) on UK television screens?
With a recent new report predicting that eight out of 10 men and almost seven in 10 women will be overweight or obese by 2020, and estimates that there are already more men who are obese than who are of a healthy weight – my bet is that it won’t be too long!
Gastric banding is just one weight loss operation procedure that has soared in popularity over the last decade, and is now reported as the most commonly performed bariatric procedure in the world.
Many of the commercial cosmetic surgery organisations who originally started their businesses promoting breast implants and other cosmetic treatments now offer this procedure in conjunction with “body contouring” surgery that is often required after drastic weight loss.
Gastric banding is not without its problems however, as the advert below clearly states – and any form of surgery for obesity should be seen as a last resort following the failure of non-surgical options.
