<p>I recently spent a weekend with Dr Angelo Rebelo, renowned Plastic Surgeon based in Lisbon, Portugal, picking up the finer points of the eyelid surgery without scars (mini-blepharoplasty).</p><p>This is suitable for patients who have minimal to moderate skin excess in the eyelids but have significant puffiness due to fat herniation (eye bags).</p><p>It is performed under local anaesthetic. A small 5mm cut is made in the eyelid skin over the fat pads to remove the fat. Each eyelid takes between 10 to 15 minutes. The cut is closed with a single stitch that is removed at 3 days. Risks of complications are minimal. The usual risks of a formal <a title="Blepharoplasty Information" style="color: " href="http://www.consultingroom.com/treatments/blepharoplasty-eyelid-surgery" target="_self">blepharoplasty</a> including obvious scarring, lid retraction and surgical stigmata are avoided.</p><p>I think patients who do not scar well or have a loose eyelid prone to problems with the traditional eyelid reduction surgery, will welcome the mini-blepharoplasty.
