Unfortunately, the beauty counter in a department store is not a reliable source of skin health information – and nor is the local chemist for that matter.
I don’t know how many times I have had patients being advised to use a certain moisturiser at a beauty counter, as their skin was supposedly ‘dehydrated’, but in fact, they were suffering from breakouts and that particular cream made the problem worse.
There is a lot of misinformation around.

Beauty advisers are very good at matching a foundation colour to your skin or help choosing a lipstick colour that suits you, but please leave it at that.
For any real skin advice, see a Dermatologist – there is a reason why you have to study more than 10 years in total to become a fully qualified Dermatologist.
