Myth 1: Electrolysis isn’t Permanent
While it may take a few treatments to destroy and remove all of your hairs, results can last forever! Here at Pure Perfection Clinic, we generally recommend between eight to 12 sessions for larger areas, which can take eight to 18 months to complete. Currently, electrolysis is the only hair removal method regarded as permanent by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – the US body responsible for protecting public health by confirming safety and efficacy of treatments.
Myth 2: Electrolysis is Really Painful
Of course, pain is subjective. Some people may find certain things uncomfortable, while others may not be bothered at all. Hair removal with electrolysis can feel like a tiny shock every few seconds, as well as being quite hot or tingly. If you’re particularly pain sensitive, we can apply anaesthetic before the procedure but, generally, most people find electrolysis perfectly manageable.
Myth 3: Electrolysis Can Only Treat Small Areas
Lots of people wrongly assume that electrolysis can only be used for small areas like under the arms or on the face or bikini line. While these are the most popular locations for treatment, electrolysis can also be safely used on larger areas like your legs and back. Depending on your concerns, however, we may recommend starting with laser hair removal for the largest areas and finishing off treatment with electrolysis. A full consultation will determine the best approach for you, and we’ll also do patch tests to check your suitability. For most effective results, a series of procedures depending on the size of the area treated will be needed.
Myth 4: Home Devices Are Just as Good as In-clinic Electrolysis Procedures
While home devices are usually cheaper than booking a series of in-clinic electrolysis hair removal treatments, they’re usually not worth the investment. There’s more chance of hair growing back, while nothing beats the skills of an experienced professional who knows how to control our powerful devices safely and effectively.
