What’s the link with DHT?
The question on many minds is whether creatine increases DHT levels, a hormone linked to hair loss. Dr Bessam Farjo explains, "DHT, derived from testosterone, can bind to specific receptors in hair follicles, influencing hair growth cycles and hair thickness. While genetic predisposition plays a role in susceptibility to DHT, research indicates that creatine may elevate DHT levels."
A study conducted on college-aged rugby players revealed a 56% increase in DHT levels after a week of creatine supplementation, remaining 40% above the baseline after 14 days.
However, it is crucial to note that this study did not assess any direct correlation with
hair loss
.
