Many of my patients have been having Botox for 10 years or more, and look fabulous for their age!'
An international study recently released at the American Society for Dermatological Surgery shows repeated Botox treatments to treat facial wrinkles over many years are safe.
The study involved 200 people who had been using Botox for 5 or more continuous years and who had at least one treatment per year for glabellar frown lines – generally described as the number “11” vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows.
The study group had 5,112 total treatment sessions, averaging two or more treatments each year over an average of nine years. Some even receive treatments for as long as 16 years.
They found that people who have long-term use of Botox are generally satisfied with their results with people who were treated for the longest period more likely to perceive themselves as looking younger.
Researchers additionally determined that Botox dosages for treating horizontal forehead lines have decreased since 1999 as people want to achieve a more “gentle” appearance.
Since Botox was introduced into the UK marketplace in 1994, its popularity and usage has increased dramatically, and is now being used to combat other conditions such as Migraines and Sweating.
