<p><em><strong>What Are Spider Veins? </strong></em></p> <p>Also known as <a title="thread veins, spider veins" href="/conditions/Thread-Veins/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">thread veins, spider veins</a> are twisted blood vessels that can be seen through the skin.</p> <p>They are often red, blue or purple and take their name from their resemblance to spider’s webs. </p> <p>Spider veins on the legs are the result of damage over time.</p> <p>They occur when the valves inside our veins weaken and can no longer push blood back to the heart.</p> <p>The web-like patterns of spider veins are created when blood accumulates in these veins. </p>
